He has been tested as shown above. What that means to those who may not know much on colour genetics and want to know, as it is interesting and I have been asked about it a lot. (Just remember though colour really is only an added bonus!) Although he is registered as a tobiano he is genetically a tovero since he carries the splash white 1 gene. He is NOT homozygous for anything, he carries one red & one black gene, one tobiano, one cream, one splash white 1 gene, one copy of nd1 and no agouti. Agouti is the gene that makes a black horse brown or bay and is not visible on a sorrel/chestnut. He does not carry the lethal white overo gene so he will never produce a lethal white foal when bred to a lwo+ mare and yes a horse that does not appear to be a frame overo such as a solid or a horse that has more than one pattern can carry it as well. Testing is the only way to know for sure. He is not Dun dilute and has 1 copy each of nd1 and nd2 so primitive markings may be present but the foal will not be a dun. He is only half the equation on what colour the foal will be, the mare will contribute the other half. He could pass either red or black for colour, the foal could be solid or tobiano, or splash overo or both for pattern and he may or may not pass on the cream gene. The cream gene is a dilute. If it is passed it would make a red based foal a palomino, a black based foal a "smoky" black and if bred to a bay and the foal was black based plus the agouti (bay) the foal would be a buckskin. A (red) sorrel/chestnut that carries & passes her agouti to the foal can also produce a buckskin if he passes the cream & black gene. Hopefully that is easy to understand!
As far as colour goes below is what he has produced
(Some of the black ones do carry cream as well)
